Amber ode to North York Moors walking trail

WALKERS WHO enjoy the views of the Cleveland Way National Trail can now saviour a beer inspired by the popular route, knowing full well they are contributing to the trail’s upkeep.

‘Striding the Riding’, a four per cent ABV pale ale being brewed by Helmsley Brewing Company, will officially be launched at the Guisborough Beer Festival on April 11, and the brewery has agreed to make a donation from the sale of each cask to contribute to the upkeep and promotion of the Cleveland Way.

The tipple, produced in association with the North York Moors National Park, will be available on tap from Helmsley Brewing Company’s bar but it is hoped some of the 40-plus pubs along the route of the Cleveland Way will choose to serve it too.

Kyle Boote, the brewery’s founder, who plans to walk along the Cleveland Way from Helmsley to the beer festival in Guisborough ahead of the launch, said: “Walking on the Cleveland Way is a great stress buster after a busy week brewing and it will be even more satisfying knowing I am helping in some way to care for this special place.”

Britain’s second oldest National Trail, the 109-mile route connects Helmsley with Filey.
