Ambulance on 999 call in car crash

TWO drivers have been left with injuries following a collision between a car and an ambulance which was responding to an emergency call.

Officers from South Yorkshire Police issued an appeal yesterday for witnesses to the crash to come forward after the accident happened on the A57 Worksop Road in Rotherham at the junction with Todwick Road and Kiveton Road at about 8.15pm on Tuesday.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “The ambulance was responding to an emergency travelling towards Anston, with its sirens sounding and blue lights flashing.

“A number of motorists heard the siren and stopped to allow the ambulance to proceed.

“As it pulled into the centre of the junction to cross the road, the driver of a Nissan Micra, travelling from Kiveton Road to cross the junction onto Todwick Road, failed to see the ambulance in mid junction and the collision occurred.

“The drivers of both vehicles sustained minor injuries.”

South Yorkshire Police officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the force by calling the non-emergency number of 101.
