Angry students storm fees hearing

Angry student protesters disrupted the Government's tuition fee inquiry yesterday, declaring it a "farce".

Chanting "No ifs, no buts, no education cuts", the group attempted to storm the public hearing at Goldsmiths University in south London to demand students are not forced to pay higher fees.

As the panel, led by former BP chief Lord Browne, began the hearing, one activist, Rheem Al-Adhami, 24, managed to force her way past security guards.

She confronted the panel, shouting: "Where is the student voice?"

She added: "We've heard talk about 7,000 a year fees, they will keep pushing it to the absolute maximum."

The protest delayed the start of the day's proceedings.

The panel were taking evidence from witnesses including CBI chief Richard Lambert and Sir Martin Harris, head of the Office for Fair Access.
