Animal waste plant to be improved

A COUNCIL has backed an animal waste company’s plans to make improvements to its processing facility in West Yorkshire.

A fire in May caused substantial damage to the buildings at the Leo Group plant at a former quarry at Swales Moor Road, Boothtown, Halifax.

More than 1,000 people signed a petition criticising the company.

Many critics complained about the “foul” smells coming from the lorries using the site.

The Leo Group now has permission from Calderdale Council to carry out multi-million pound improvement works.

Following the decision Leo Group managing director Danny Sawrij said: “I’d like to thank members of the planning committee and officers for their common sense approach to this submission.

“Their show of hands in favour of our scheme will allow us to significantly improve existing buildings and replace the ones damaged in the fire.
