Annual music and arts showcase draws in crowds to seaside town

VISITORS to Yorkshire’s most popular seaside resort were treated to scores of events as part of an annual showcase of arts on the coast.

The Coastival – A Different View event was staged in Scarborough on Saturday and the eclectic programme featured more than 60 showcases including light shows, art exhibitions and music workshops.

This year’s festival saw former Culture Club singer Boy George, who is now a respected DJ, headline an evening of music and lightshows at the Scarborough Spa.

A spokesman for the Spa said: “Coastival once again proved to be a hugely popular event, and the atmosphere at the Spa was great. It is an event that provides a great deal of entertainment not just for the town’s residents, but for so many people who visit Scarborough as well.”

Coastival’s patrons include actor Sir Ben Kingsley, who was born in Snainton near Scarborough, playwright Sir Alan Ayckbourn and jazz singer and Yorkshire Post columnist Clare Teal.
