Appeal over fatal York collision

NORTH Yorkshire Police has urged a witness to a fatal traffic collision on York’s outer ring road to come forward.

Police believe a woman motorist behind one of the vehicles involved in the accident might have important information that could help them with their enquiries.

The accident, involving a Tesco goods lorry and a blue Vauxhall Signum, occurred at approximately 8.15pm on Tuesday between the B1224 Wetherby Road and the Moor Lane roundabout on the A1237.

The driver of the Vauxhall Signum, a man thought to be in his 40s, died at the scene. He has not yet been identified by police. The lorry driver, a 59-year-old man from Doncaster, was treated for minor injuries at hospital.

The potential witness that North Yorkshire Police is keen to speak to left the scene before officers had a chance to speak to her.

Police are also keen to speak to anyone else who witnessed the accident.

Traffic Constable Lee Cobb, of Tadcaster Roads Policing Group, said: “It is important that anyone who witnessed the collision contacts the police as soon as they can.

“We would particularly like to speak to a woman who was directly behind the lorry when the collision happened. She left the scene immediately after the incident and she may well have information that could be very helpful to the investigation.

“I urge anyone who witnessed the collision itself or saw either vehicle prior to the incident to contact the police with information.”

Potential witnesses are urged to contact TC Lee Cobb, of Tadcaster Roads Policing Group, on 0845 6060 247, quoting reference number NYP-20092011-0417.
