Appeal for witnesses after man found with head injuries

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was found lying on a road with life-threatening injuries.

The 23-year-old is believed to have been travelling in a taxi with five other men shortly before being found at the junction of Strand Close and Beverley Road, Hull, at about 2.15am on Saturday. He was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary with serious head injuries and was in a critical condition yesterday.

Police are unsure how the man came to be injured, but said a dispute had taken place resulting in five of the men being asked to leave the taxi, which was travelling along Beverley Road towards Bransholme.

Officers would like to speak to several potential witnesses who were seen in the area at the time.

They include a group standing in a bus shelter near Strand Close, a pedestrian walking in a bus lane away from the city centre, and the driver of a Renault Clio parked near the scene.

The pedestrian was wearing light blue jeans and a black long-sleeved top and was talking on a mobile phone.

A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: "This investigation is currently ongoing and we are working hard to establish the exact details of the events that took place close to Strand Close on Saturday.
