Appointments: Hurd's son to be Minister

A raft of Ministers were unveiled yesterday including Tory Nick Hurd, son of former Foreign Secretary Lord Hurd, who will keep his portfolio from the opposition to become Charities Minister.

Lib Dem Alistair Carmichael will also be Senior Government Whip in the new administration. He will also act as the Lib Dem Chief Whip in the coalition.

Mr Carmichael was the Lib Dems' spokesman on Scottish and Northern Irish affairs in the last parliament.

Tory Patrick McLoughlin has already been confirmed as the Government's Chief Whip.

Conservative Jonathan Djanogly announced on Twitter that he had been appointed junior justice minister and spoke of his delight at the appointment.

Mr Djanogly had previously served as Shadow Business Minister and Shadow Solicitor General.

Lib Dem David Heath will be Commons Leader Sir George Young's deputy.
