Art educator puts a lifetime of his own work on display

Mr Moore is currently dean of Hull School of Art and Design and owner of Studio Eleven Gallery in Hull’s emerging creative quarter in Humber Street, where he has recently relocated his studio from rural East Yorkshire.

The exhibition spans work from his latter days at Sheffield College of Art to 2010; largely abstract it contains intriguing glimpses of more figurative starting points, including the life model and landscape.

Mr Moore said: “It is many years since I showed work in this quantity in the UK but the curator at Beverley Art Gallery saw some past work whilst collecting a painting from my studio for a mixed show at Sewerby Hall two or three years ago and was keen to give me the opportunity for this look back at several periods of my life as an artist.

“I was hesitant at first but figured that it would be interesting for the public to see work untainted by the changing fashions and firmly rooted in observation, feeling and the need to obsessively make creative work.”

A Glance Back runs at Beverley Art Gallery until March 26 – with longer evening opening hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Gallery is closed on Sundays.
