Artist does splits as gallery to show two sides of work

AN exhibition of paintings by Sheffield artist John Brokenshire has gone on show at the Cupola Gallery in Hillsborough.

The exhibition – called Like a Fool – opened on Friday and will run until Sunday, March 21.

Specially designed for the two spaces at the gallery, the main room downstairs will host abstract pieces of art, while the long gallery upstairs will show what the artist describes as "more edgy or challenging works".

Cupola Gallery director Karen Sherwood said: "If the viewer relates to one or both of these bodies of work then they have shared an experience of the painter. Sometimes a mystery remains a mystery and this is valuable too."

The vast majority of the artworks on show are oil on canvas, although there are also two small gouache paintings on paper. All of the works in the Like a Fool exhibition are on sale, with prices ranging from 225 to 935.

Gallery manager and curator Ian Gracey added: "It's with a real sense of pleasure that Cupola hosts John Brokenshire's exhibition Like a Fool.

"John has been an integral part of Cupola for many years and is a highly-respected local painter.

He added: "With bags of talent and a reputation of producing high-quality emotive work we can expect an exhibition that emits poetic sensitivity born out of the darker elements of life."
