Artist sets out to record the minute beauty of her stunning home city

Angela Bell, artist in residence at Burton Agnes Hall, near Driffield, has begun work in Hull's Old Town.

Her project, Architecture of Hull, has taken her to Trinity Square as she begins montages and paintings of its historic buildings, streets and public furniture.

From the statue of 17th century city poet Andrew Marvell to the door of Holy Trinity Church, the archway above Prince Street and even the iron railings nearby, Ms Bell said she hoped to draw residents' attention to the little intricacies that are rarely noticed.

She said: "It's part of Hull that I love. There are some beautiful buildings and ironwork and carvings that are easy to miss. The more I like the more I see.

"You've got to look up because if you don't you don't see the beauty of what is there. The Old Town is just stunning."

The 55-year-old is planning to create a series of paintings, some of which will be entered in the Ferens Art Gallery's annual open competition.
