Artists open new gallery to showcase colleagues' talents

Studio Eleven, at 11 Humber Street, will open their Christmas show Wrapped at 5pm on Thursday which features art, printmaking, ceramics and designer-jewellery made by nationally-recognised makers.

There will also be a market at the Fruit arts centre and the Museum of Club Culture and Kingston Art Group will be open.

The gallery is the brainchild of ceramicist Adele Howitt and painter, printmaker and head of the school of art and design Rob Moore, who are looking to open a community workshop next year where local artists and enthusiasts can have access to equipment on a subscription basis.

Ms Howitt said: "Most of the makers and artists are based in Yorkshire and most haven't had the opportunity to exhibit in Hull before."

Works by jewellers Jacqueline Warrington and Emma Sedman, from Bridlington, are on display along with Halifax-based painter Jake Attree and ceramacist and printmaker Peter Clough from Harrogate. Prices range from 22 to as much as 3,000.

The gallery will be open from 11am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday until December 18, and Thursday evenings until December 16.
