Arts body celebrates past

Scarborough-based Crescent Arts has been celebrating its past while remaining confident about is future, says director Stuart Cameron.

In 2009 the organisation celebrated its 30th anniversary ahead of

taking over new exhibition spaces this year.

Throughout December the venue has celebrated the 30-year milestone with an exhibition which looks back over the venue's history, such as its opening in 1979.

The installation piece features over 1000 images tracing the history of Crescent Arts, the brainchild of a group of Scarborough artists in 1979, led initially by Mel Noble.

Mr Cameron said the fact that the building has always operated on a shoe string means it is well placed to survive.

In 2010 Crescent Artspace will be moving out of the basement of Scarborough Art Gallery Crescent Artspace into the former Royal Auctions Rooms on Queen Street.
