Artwork gives children the chance to break childhood taboo
IT WAS always one of the taboos of childhood, but youngsters are being given the chance to draw on walls with an art project at a Yorkshire museum.
Pupils from schools and colleges in the Scarborough district are visiting the resort’s art gallery throughout this week to create a huge artwork directly on the venue’s walls. Making a Mark, which will open on Friday evening and run until October 21 except on Monday next week, is part of the annual Big Draw event organised by the Campaign for Drawing. The project will create a mural based on the concept of “self” using logos, tags and motifs, and is being overseen by artists Andy Black, Sally Taylor and Joanna Venus. Mr Black, a course tutor for Fine Art at Yorkshire Coast College, said: “Drawing is a fantastic form of self-expression, a powerful learning tool, and a great skill to have.”
