Attack broke neighbour's jaw

A TEENAGER who attacked a drunken neighbour, breaking his jaw, has been sent to a young offender institution for 18 months.

Tom Gent, prosecuting, told Leeds Crown Court yesterday the violence happened last November when James Reynolds saw Adam John Thompson walking to his home in Harewood Avenue, Pontefract, in the early hours.

There was a history of "bad blood" between their families and Reynolds was seen by another neighbour to approach Mr Thompson and start punching him.

Mr Thompson had been out drinking since the previous evening and accepted he was intoxicated. When he received the first blow he described it knocking him to the ground where he tried to protect himself from further punches and kicks.

After the incident he made his way home and it was alleged he and his father then went round to the home of Reynolds and caused damage for which they are now facing prosecution, said Mr Gent.

When Mr Thompson was seen in hospital he was found to have a broken jaw.

Reynolds, 18, admitted causing grievous bodily harm.

Judge Sally Cahill QC described it as a "nasty offence".
