Back in UK for railway reunion

THE transatlantic sisters of Mallard, the world’s fastest steam locomotive, arrived at Peel Port in Liverpool yesterday after making the historic trip across the Atlantic.

Dominion of Canada and Dwight D Eisenhower, have returned to the country for the first time in more than half a century for a very special reunion in the UK.

They are on loan to the National Railway Museum in York for two years from the National Railroad Museum in Wisconsin, USA, and Exporail, the Canadian National Railway Museum in Montreal. The transatlantic sisters have been brought home to take part in next year’s 75th anniversary celebrations of Mallard securing the world speed crown after reaching 126mph in 1938.
