Battering up a better meal

Chef Brian Turner, right, was on hand yesterday to teach Leeds rugby player Jamie Jones-Buchanan about the benefits of cooking up nutritious meals.

He was taking part in the Rugby League omelette challenge at Carnegie Stadium, Headingley, Leeds.

Players from clubs including Leeds Rhinos, Castleford Tigers, Hull KR, and Huddersfield Giants took part at the media brunch at Headingley yesterday.

Mr Turner, who has developed recipes with a nutritionist from Leeds Metropolitan University, showcased how nutrition can help players maintain their bodies throughout a season and what food is ideal before a big game. Players also took part in a cook off to recreate some of the recipes.
