Beach life comes to city centre

Leeds may be a long way from the sea, but that didn't stop Katie Keighley and Dale Robson help Andrew Whewell making sandcastles on the beach created in the Light shopping centre on the Headrow.

The centre's summer feature includes a beach with real sand, deckchairs, buckets and spades galore and a beach bar.

Open until Sunday, families are welcome to take part in treasure hunts, free prize draws, ice cream and free face painting – regardless of the vagaries of the British summer weather. The beach bar will open in the evening for cocktails and keep fit activities.
