Benefits-fraud mother claimed £107,000

A mother of five who fraudulently claimed more than £100,000 in support payments over 11 years has avoided jail.

Charity worker Annette Morris, 46, claimed 107,641 in housing, incapacity and income support.

She legitimately applied for income support in 1991 as a single parent but began working in October 1997, earning up to 1,375 a month at a charity.

All claims after this were fraudulent, said David Dixon, prosecuting, at Leeds Crown Court.

Morris, of Sholebroke Street, Leeds, admitted eight counts of benefit fraud and was given a 12-month sentence suspended for two years. She also received a community order of 150 hours unpaid work and an 18-month supervision requirement.
