Bid to expand campsite supported

A bid to more than double the number of caravan pitches at a campsite on green belt land has won council officers’ backing.

Cherry Tree Farm Campsite wants to increase the pitches from nine to 21 at its site in Saddleworth Road, Greetland, Halifax.

The extended site would include seven static caravan pitches, five new touring caravan pitches, and a further static caravan to be used as an office. The existing camping field will be retained.

Calderdale Council’s planning committee will be advised to grant temporary planning permission for 12 months on Tuesday.

The local authority has received five letters from people supporting the scheme and four from those against the development.

Supporters say the site is considered an “asset to the area” and point to the impact on local tourism and money spent in local businesses.

They say the site is quiet, tidy, professionally operated, with “excellent” facilities and is “always full”.

Critics fear the expansion would lead to more traffic and issues with vehicles trying to access the site via Silverdale Terrace. There are also concerns about noise levels and visual impact.
