Big Lunch on menu for neighbours’ get-together

Around 100 people turned up at the city centre venue to enjoy a picnic and live music, which was part of the third annual Big Lunch event held yesterday across the country.

Born out of the Eden Project, an educational charity based in Cornwall, the event aims to encourage the UK’s residents to get together with their neighbours for a few hours of community, friendship and fun over a meal.

Rob Wilson, 35, who lives in the city centre, organised the Park Square picnic to ensure city centre dwellers did not miss out.

Elsewhere in Leeds residents gathered in Chapel Allerton to host another Big Lunch.

The Chapel Allerton event organiser Matt Tamplin formed a community group, CARA, after holding a previous Big Lunch.

On each of the two previous years the Big Lunch attracted almost a million people across the country.
