Biker alone in ditch for 48 hours after crash

A MOTORCYCLIST lay in a ditch at the side of the road for two days after coming off his
machine and being unable to find help.

Police said yesterday that the biker, from Goole, is currently in Doncaster Royal Infirmary with serious injuries, including hypothermia, as a result of the rush-hour smash.

A police spokesman said: “At around 8am on Wednesday, September 12 it is believed a 40-year-old man from Goole was riding his black Kawasaki ZX6R along the A614 Selby Road in Thorne, Doncaster, towards Rawcliffe.

“It is believed the motorcyclist collided with a metal signpost on the off-side of the carriageway and then travelled approximately 200 metres further along the carriageway before coming to rest in a ditch.

“The motorcyclist, hidden from view, was at the scene for 48 hours before being found on Friday, September 14.

“The 40-year-old man suffered serious injuries, including
broken ribs and hypothermia, and he is currently being
treated at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.”

Witnesses to the collision have been asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101.

Meanwhile, police are also appealing for information after a 32-year-old man suffered serious injuries when his pedal cycle was involved in a collision in Sheffield.

It is thought that he was cycling downhill along Chesterfield Road at 8.05am on Thursday, September 13 when, as he approached the junction with Little London Road in Heeley, a blue Mini Cooper overtook the cyclist and pulled across him.

The cyclist then collided with the Mini and came off his bike in the middle of the junction.

He broke a number of bones and suffered injuries so severe that he needed skin grafts and plastic surgery at Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital.

The 57-year-old driver of the Mini Cooper was unhurt.
