Bikers plan speed-campaign protest

BIKERS are planning a rally in Hull on May 1 in protest at a police operation designed to stop them speeding.

Police are using an unmarked specially-modified superbike, a Suzuki GSX 1300R Hayabusa,in a bid to snare speeding bikers.

But East Yorkshire Motorcycle Action Group says the combination of two speeding bikers and a third vehicle used by police to stop the offending biker could be dangerous.

They would prefer to see high-visibility policing instead.

Humberside Police say the superbike won't be used for pursuit, but gathering evidence and insist they will be following strict guidelines.

Despite nearly halving the number of motorcyclists killed or seriously injured across the Humberside Police area since 2003, the force says bikers still account for a disproportionately high number of serious accidents on the region's roads.
