Bin men emulate Calendar Girls by baring (almost) all

MEET Yorkshire's new "calendar girls" – a team of Scarborough bin men.

Inspired by the famous members of Rylstone Women's Institute near Skipton, the council bin men decided to strip off their grubby overalls and bear all for a new charity calendar.

The team of 13 volunteers, from Scarborough Borough Council's waste and recycling department, are also aiming to use the calendar to boost recycling rates across the district by posing at a number of locations in Scarborough and Whitby, with carefully placed pieces of recycling equipment and materials to hide their modesty.

Recycling education officer Donna Gaddass said: "This calendar is already getting people talking.

"It's been a lot of fun to produce and the lads who posed for the photographs are really good sports – I'm hoping when the calendar goes on sale, it will also be a really memorable way of taking the recycling message directly into people's homes."

The calendar was launched at a glamorous event at the Royal Hotel, Scarborough, yesterday and is available to buy from various locations including the Customer First centres in Scarborough and Whitby and tourist information centres.

Money from sales of the calendar will be donated to charity.
