Blaze-hit hospital looks to future

ALMOST four weeks after a devastating fire, services are still getting back to normal at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

Since the blaze on Saturday, June 25, the fracture clinic and orthopaedic clinic have been situated on Staveley Ward, but are set to move back into the outpatient suite on Monday, July 25.

A temporary kitchen will soon also be installed in what is currently a staff area, to replace cafe facilities which were destroyed.

A spokesman for Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust said yesterday: “The fire-damaged area within the main entrance has now been all but demolished and this part of the process is almost over.

“The trust will seek to tender the work for the main entrance rebuild and refurbishment over the next few weeks.

“At this stage assessment is continuing on other main entrance fixtures and fittings which were damaged by smoke and water – including flooring, seating and the reception desk – to determine if these will need replacing in full.

“The domed roof in the main entrance will need replacing , but tears in the structure have been repaired on a temporary basis.”
