Blow for wind turbine bid as planners urge refusal

PLANNING permission for a new wind turbine on moorland near Penistone in South Yorkshire is set to be refused by Barnsley Council.

The proposed 111ft high turbine at Millhouse Green would be erected in a field used for livestock grazing, within view of the Royd Moor and Hazlehead wind farms.

A total of nine objections were received over the application, with one opponent saying the turbine would “harm the openness of the green belt”.

Other objectors said it would be too close to houses and could impact on the ecology of the area.

Barnsley planning officials have recommended that councillors refuse permission at a meeting on Tuesday next week on the grounds that the turbine would harm the “openness and appearance” of the area.
