Bomb scare blamed on heated pair of gloves
A BOMB scare that brought York city centre to a standstill and forced the evacuation of hundreds of workers was caused by a pair of gloves, it is understood.
Thousands of commuters were delayed for much of Wednesday morning after a suspect package, addressed to a senior executive, was found in the mail room of insurance company Aviva’s office on Rougier Street, at about 7.20am.
Army disposal teams were called in and police set up a large-scale cordon around the building.
But yesterday it emerged from sources in the emergency services that the package contained a pair of gloves with a heating element.
Police said an inquiry was continuing.
