Box office opens in new era for legendary nightspot

The Box Office at North Lincolnshire’s newest entertainment venue is to open to the public next week.

The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe will open its doors and sell tickets to all events there and at the Plowright Theatre on weekdays between 10.30am and 4pm from Monday.

Dan Harris, the venue’s general manager, said: “We have had a fantastic start to the year – last week saw the venue sell more tickets than in any other seven day period since we opened in November. Brendan Cole’s ‘Live and Unjudged’ show has already sold out and performances by The Moscow City Ballet are proving especially popular. With our Box Office staff now in place we’re looking forward to inviting guests to see the venue for themselves.”

The Baths Hall, a former public swimming pool dating back to 1931, has been re-launched after a £14.4m makeover with a promise to offer an “exciting programme” of theatre, music, comedy, dance and community events.

The facility in Doncaster Road features an auditorium catering for seated audiences of more than 1,000, with a capacity of 2,000 for standing events.

It is being managed by SMG Europe on behalf of North Lincolnshire Council, which funded the 17 months of re-development work.

The Kinks, The Who, The Hollies and The Animals were among the famous names who appeared at the venue in its heyday.

The hall, which had been closed for seven years, was once described by former Radio 1 DJ John Peel as his favourite venue to perform in.
