Boy, eight, hit by paramedic car on emergency call

AN eight-year-old boy was left with life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a paramedic car attending an emergency call in Sheffield.

Police said the child was being treated at Sheffield Children’s Hospital for head injuries and fractures to his ankle, collar bone and nose after the incident in Owler Lane.

Officers were called at about 6.05pm on Saturday after the accident involving a Skoda Octavia, which was responding to a call to attend an emergency incident, with its blue lights and sirens activated.

It was travelling along Owler Lane towards Attercliffe and was near the junction with Firth Park Road when the boy is reported to have run into the road from the driver’s offside.

The 28-year-old female driver of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service vehicle was not hurt.
