Boy stabbed to death after disturbance outside party

The incident happened near Croydon Sports Arena in south London early yesterday.

Scotland Yard said officers were called to the venue in Albert Road, Croydon, shortly after midnight following reports of a disturbance outside.

A spokesman said: "On arrival they found a youth in a walkway near the club with serious chest wounds."

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin have been informed.

Officers are aware of the victim's identity but last night were awaiting formal identification, the spokesman said.

A post-mortem examination was due to take place to confirm the cause of death.

A 15-year-old youth was arrested nearby on suspicion of murder and possession of an offensive weapon. He remained in custody at a south London police station last night.

The spokesman said that at about 11pm on Saturday, there had been an incident at the same location.

"A group of six to eight males tried to gatecrash the same venue which was holding a 16th birthday celebration.

"At this early stage it is believed the victim was not a guest at the party and it is unclear what he was doing in the area."

Detective Inspector Alison Hepworth, from Homicide and Serious Crime Command, said: "We know there were many guests at the party and would appeal to them to come forward with information on what happened."

In a separate investigation police have arrested two people following the murder of a teenager shot in the neck at a take-away.

Agnes Sina-Inakoju, 16, was standing with a group of her friends inside the fast food outlet in east London on Wednesday evening when detectives believe a shot was fired through the window.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said two men were arrested on Saturday night in connection with her murder.

The two arrested were 21 and 16, police said.

Officers said they did not believe the teenager had been the intended target of the shooting.

Detective Chief Inspector John Crossley, who is leading the investigation, said: "At this stage I do not believe Agnes was the intended target, which makes this case all the more tragic."
