Boy who survived plane crash may be flown home

THE Dutch boy who was the sole survivor of the Libyan plane crash may be flown home as early as this weekend, say doctors.

Rescuers found nine-year-old Ruben Van Assouw still strapped in his seat in an area of desert strewn with crash debris.

His father, mother and 11-year-old brother were among the 103 people killed on Wednesday when their flight from South Africa crashed short of the runway in Tripoli.

Ruben is said to be recovering well after surgery to repair multiple fractures to his legs.

Tributes have been paid to a British man who was among the victims. Nigel Peter, 47, who held joint British and South African nationality, was a senior manager with Johannesburg-based air charter firm AirQuarius. Its general manager Michael Goodwin said Mr Peter was a highly committed and professional member of his team.
