Boys suspended from school after weapons arrest

THREE boys who were arrested after allegedly taking weapons into a Yorkshire secondary school have been excluded.

The boys, one aged 12 and two aged 13, were arrested for possession of offensive weapons – one of which is believed to be a knife – after staff at Hanson School in Swain House, Bradford, alerted police on January 27.

In a statement on the school's website yesterday, headteacher Tim Brookes said: "The students have been excluded from school.

"Following the incident there were inevitable rumours circulating around other students. However, no further incidents took place. Staff were extremely vigilant throughout Thursday and Friday and the police were kept fully informed and school was updated with the progress of the police investigation.

"This was an isolated incident which was dealt with promptly by staff and the police. The vast majority of our students are happy and secure in school."

Inspector Pete Tuff, of the Eccleshill Neighbourhood Police Team (NPT), said police were called to the school following a report three teenage boys had been seen carrying weapons.

He added: "Officers attended and all three were arrested for possession of offensive weapons, interviewed and bailed pending further enquiries. The NPT are working very closely with Hanson School and will continue to do so to deal with any other future issues."

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said enquiries were ongoing.
