Bridge scheme to get back on track after wind halted work

AFTER being delayed due to high winds over the Christmas period, new dates have been announced for the installation of a bridge over the East Coast main line railway in Doncaster.

The new bridge is part of works to turn White Rose Way, which links the town centre with junction three of the M18 motorway, into a dual carriageway.

A 48-hour “window” had been granted by Network Rail over Christmas, for the works to take place. However, strong winds meant that just one of the six bridge beams could be put into place during that time.

Works will now rake place from 9pm on Saturday nights until 8am on Sunday mornings for the next four weeks.

Peter Davies, mayor of Doncaster, said: “The project team is pulling out all the stops to ensure these important bridge lifts are completed.

“Given the economic importance of this scheme for Doncaster, I am delighted we have agreed a solution that prevents significant delays to the project.

“Everything is getting back on track.”

During the works, White Rose Way will be closed between Potteric Carr and Ladybank roundabouts and diversions will be in place.

If works are completed ahead of time the road will be reopened to traffic and some of the provisional closures will not be required, although all works are subject to the weather.

The new bridge will sit adjacent to the existing bridge and link into the junctions at Potteric Carr and Ladybank creating a dual carriageway. The first phase is expected to be completed in November.
