British man drowns on holiday

A BRITISH man has died in a swimming incident in the Canary Islands.

Steve Potter was spotted face down in the water after leaving friends on the beach to go for a swim off Lanzarote.

He is reported to have been seen to be in trouble and dragged out of the water unconscious, but died at the shoreline.

Mr Potter was reported to be 43 and from the north of England.

He was staying at Famara Beach in Lanzarote with friends when the incident happened late on Saturday afternoon.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We can confirm the death of a British national in Lanzarote on April 20, and we are providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time.”
