Brother and sister in fight for BBC folk music award

A BROTHER and sister are set to battle it out in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards after they and their respective band partners were both shortlisted in the best duo category.

Jamie and Kathryn Roberts, from Barnsley, both said they were delighted to have been nominated and will find out whether either of them has won at a ceremony on January 30.

Miss Roberts performs with Sean Lakeman while Mr Roberts is in a folk duo with Katriona Gilmore. He said: “It’s a real honour to get a nomination for such a prestigious award.

“Being nominated in the same category as Kathryn and Sean, as well as Hannah James and Sam Sweeney, who are bandmates of mine from another band I play with called Kerfuffle, should certainly add to the excitement.

“When I was at Barnsley College, Kathryn was already a very established performer and I would have never imagined that I would be in a similar position.”
