Brother to face court after fatal stabbing of boy, 9

THE BROTHER of a nine-year-old boy who was stabbed to death at a house in Bradford has been charged with his murder.

Jack Taylor died after an attack at what is believed to be his sister's house in the Wibsey area of Bradford on Thursday night.

His sister Rachel, 18, was also injured and is thought to have been stabbed in the arm. Her injuries were not life-threatening and her parents Louise and Tim and sister Elisha, 16, were with her in hospital yesterday.

Their 20-year-old brother Daniel was charged by police last night. He will appear before Bradford Magistrates' Court this morning accused of murder and wounding with intent.

Scores of tributes to the schoolboy have been posted on the internet and several tribute groups set up on the social networking site Facebook.

Trevor Bairstow, whose 10-year-old granddaughter Leah went to school with him, said he was horrified to hear of his death.

"He was normal little lad. I used to see him playing out and about. He never bothered us. What can you say? He's a nine-year-old boy who's been stabbed. It's shocking."

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said officers were called at 7.46pm on Thursday to the house in Rookes Avenue.

Five houses between Rookes Avenue and Richardson Avenue, where Jack is understood to have lived with his parents, were cordoned off yesterday and officers last night were guarding the entrances.

The youngster was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary by ambulance but died from his injuries shortly after 8pm.

A spokesman said a post-mortem examination showed he died from multiple stab wounds.

Jack attended Wibsey Primary School, where children and staff are currently on a half-term break.

Wibsey councillor David Green said: "Our condolences must go to the family who are having to cope with this tremendous tragedy.

"We are aware the police are carrying out thorough and ongoing investigations and as local councillors we are keeping in close touch with them and the other authorities.

"But our main priority is to ensure the family receive the support they need, as does the wider community on the estate in dealing with the fall-out of this horrendous crime."

Dale Webster, 24, who lives across the road from boy's home, spoke of his shock.

He described the victim as a "cute little lad" who came to collect sponsorship money from him a couple of months ago.
