Brzen shoplifter banned from every store in town

A BRAZEN shoplifter has been warned he faces arrest if he enters shops in Dewsbury town centre.

Shaun Lee Hudson, 36, has been issued with an Anti-Social Behaviour Order after being convicted of shoplifting.

Police say Hudson, of Victoria Street, Ravensthorpe, Dewsbury, targets the same shops time and time again and staff are under extra pressure because of his behaviour.

When challenged he intimidates staff by shouting and swearing.

On July 7 this year he entered Halfords in Dewsbury and left on a stolen bicycle. On the same day he stole items from the Co-op, Mirfield.

On July 12 he left Asda in Dewsbury with a TV and DVD player which he made no attempt to pay for. The following day he tried to take two DVD players from Sainsbury’s in Dewsbury.

The Asbo was issued by magistrates in Dewsbury at the request of the Kirklees Partnership body.

The order bans him from entering Halfords, the Co-op at Mirfield, Asda and Sainsbury’s in Dewsbury. Many other shops have banned Hudson by letter from their premises.

The order also bans Hudson from any other premises in West Yorkshire where he is already banned by letter.

Pc Julie Diamond of the Kirklees Anti-Social Behaviour Unit described Hudson as a persistent shoplifter who is aggressive when challenged.

She said: “It is unusual for an Asbo to be granted in relation to individuals stealing from shops; however despite being formally banned from entering premises he has continued with the same behaviour resulting in his behaviour disrupting the everyday running of local businesses resulting in staff and customers being harassed, alarmed and distressed.

“Local retail premises welcome that fact that the order has been made and feel that this will assist and support them in managing any future problems they may have with this individual.”
