Builder runs into further opposition over homes

Residents say they are concerned by plans to “cram” 125 houses into a controversial development.

Earlier this year the Planning Inspectorate allowed an appeal by Barratt Homes to build on the former Reckitts playing fields in Chamberlain Road, Hull, ending a 10-year fight by local residents. The firm has sent out hundreds of leaflets setting out detailed plans, which still have to go to Hull Council’s planning committee for approval.

Sub-postmaster Serji Singh, who led local opposition, said: “A lot of people say there’s no identity and no links to the site’s history, no hedges, it is all crammed in.”

Councillor Adam Williams said: “If you look at the plan, they have obviously tried to squeeze in as many as they can.”
