Bull shot dead in Sheffield primary school playground

POLICE shot a bull dead today after it escaped from a slaughterhouse and found its way onto primary school playing fields in Sheffield.

At around 11.50am, a member of the public called South Yorkshire Police to say that there was a bull on Main Street in Grenoside.

It then wandered onto the playing fields of Fox Hill Primary School, where it was contained by armed police officers.

A police spokesman said yesterday afternoon: “Police took specialist advice and, in the interests of public safety and to minimise the risk to the community, the bull was shot dead.

“It is believed the bull had escaped from a nearby slaughterhouse. No-one was injured during the incident.”

It is understood that pupils were taken into the school hall during the incident and did not see or hear the shooting.
