Bureaucrats on the move to new HQ

CIVIC services for a North Yorkshire district will be moved to a new multi-million pound headquarters from the start of August.

Selby District Council confirmed yesterday that it will shift its operations to the new base from August 1 in the long-awaited relocation to a site which it will share with the town’s hospital.

The council and health trust NHS North Yorkshire and York worked together to get the project up and running with both organisations able to pool their resources to deliver the new facilities.

The council says the long-term goal is to provide a more effective use of taxpayers’ money through reduced expenditure on maintenance. A spokeswoman said: “As well as this, a more energy-efficient building requires less power to run compared to the existing buildings, which will also help both organisations save money in the long-term.

“The new purpose-built facilities are designed around the needs of a modern workplace with new facilities and modern resources.”

Council phone numbers will stay the same.

Health staff began their move several weeks ago to the New Selby War Memorial Hospital at the Doncaster Road site.
