Burglars steal postcard collection

A COLLECTION of 600 postcards was stolen during a robbery at house in Mirfield.

During the burglary, which took place at a house in Nab Lane between 8am and 5pm on May 18, jewellery including a gold ring, a half-sovereign gold chain and a diamond ring were stolen.

Also stolen were a collection of approximately 600 postcards. They had been collected by the robbery victim, a 51-year old woman, over the past 25 years. The collection documents and features pictures of Dewsbury in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The burglary is believed to have taken place when the suspects broke into the house through a rear door and found a safe under the stairs. They also stole two further safes from an office in a front room of the house.

The suspects involved in the crime were not seen, but a gold coloured saloon car was seen driving from the house during the time the crime happened.

Police say the postcards are not worth a great deal of money but are of sentimental value to the victim.

Anyone with information can contact Det Sgt Matt Hawker at Dewsbury Police Station on 01924 431086.
