Business bosses set course for China

COMPANY chiefs from the Humber region are heading for China this week to take part in a trade mission linked to the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.

Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce has organised a visit to Qingdao to coincide with the arrival there of the clipper fleet, including the Yorkshire Forward-sponsored entry Hull & Humber.

On Monday Hull-based Chaucer Foods will host a dinner at the Intercontinental Hotel for the mission and the crew of the Hull & Humber yacht.

Next Thursday Yorkshire Forward will host a banquet featuring food from the region, including fish supplied by Icelandic UK and Coldwater Seafood in Grimsby, and pork from Beeford-based ACMC's Chinese joint venture.

The Lord Mayor of Hull, Coun Karen Woods, will also be on the mission after responding to an invitation from the Mayor of Qingdao, who will host a welcome event next Wednesday.

Pauline Wade, head of international trade at the chamber, said: "We have a busy programme of events arranged for the attendees which will help them to make lots of new contacts and hopefully generate new income."
