Business to debate impact of cutbacks

BUSINESS leaders in Harrogate are expected to turn out in force for a top-level meeting to discuss the impact of Government spending cuts on the community and the new network of alliances emerging in local government.

The Special Open Meeting on The Current Economic Situation and its impact on Harrogate has been called for Monday November 15 at the town's Crown Hotel

Speakers will include Andrew Jones, MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, Wallace Sampson, chief executive of Harrogate Borough Council, and Nigel Avison, the council's director of development Services,

Also on the agenda will be proposals for formation of Local Enterprise Partnerships to replace Regional Development Agencies, such as Yorkshire Forward. It follows the approval of Leeds City Region's bid, but not the one for York and North Yorkshire.

The meeting will conclude with an update on local developments including the Tesco and Pannal planning applications and key road, rail and air links.
