Business hopes as work starts on enterprise centre

POTENTIAL entrepreneurs and existing business owners in one of Sheffield's most deprived neighbourhoods are being promised a boost after work began on a new enterprise centre.

The building, on the site of a former council works depot in Knutton Road, Parson Cross, will provide "state of the art" facilities for new local companies and small businesses in the area.

According to Sheffield Council and local regeneration organisation Soar, the aim of the development is to "increase and encourage people into enterprise and provide new businesses in the area with a range of support services".

The council said business owners in the Parson Cross area will be able to "benefit from individual units clustered around an internal courtyard which will act as a social hub and space for hot desking combined with onsite business support services".

The development will also provide office space, industrial units, artists studios and meeting space.

The enterprise director at Sheffield Council, Kevin Bennett, said: "This exciting and innovative development will create a local enterprise hub for residents looking to start up in business and existing business owners.

"Situated in the heart of Parson Cross, the facilities will offer high standard business incubation space and support onsite, and help boost the local economy."

The development has been funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the Homes and Communities Agency and Sheffield Council's enterprise programme.

Soar also hopes to refurbish a nearby disused library to provide further office space.

Rob Adamson, a local resident and director of Soar Enterprises said: "This project will help achieve a long lasting economic benefit to Parson Cross and other north east Sheffield Communities."
