Busy bus route to be speeded up

A MAJOR bus route which links the south east of Sheffield with the city centre is set to be improved with £200,000 of funding.

The Mosborough “Key Bus Route” is serviced by the 120 bus, which is one of the busiest routes into the city, carrying around 20 per cent of all bus passenger trips in Sheffield.

A proposed scheme in Mansfield Road is now intended to “improve the efficiency of the bus lane and the management of the approach to Manor Top.”

Under the plans, the bus lane will be moved and peak time bus lane hours will be extended.

The Manor Top area will also become a pilot for a new traffic management system, aimed at co-ordinating traffic signals to give priority to public transport.

Coun Leigh Bramall said: “The Mosborough route is really important in ensuring local people are able to travel easily around the city and enabling them to have ready access to their work places.

“It’s also a major route into the city centre and, therefore, a vital part of the transport infrastructure that supports the city’s economy.”

Work on the scheme is due to begin during the school half-term holiday at the end of next month
