AWARD-WINNING butcher Brian Fields is in the running for another top prize.

The butcher, from Anlaby, near Hull, who currently holds the Butcher’s Shop of the Year title, is trying to make mincemeat of the opposition after being selected as a regional finalist in the Banger Awards. Mr Fields’ Anlaby Animal Sausage – made with free range pork, chili, cayenne, paprika and mustard – was chosen from more than 200 entries for the award run by the British Sausage Appreciation Society.

Sausage fan and Britain’s Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood, will announce the winner at a competition at Sam’s Chop House in Leeds next Thursday.

Mr Fields – who once produced a “finger pie” to support a local theatre production of Sweeney Todd – launched the business 16 years ago in premises that has housed a butcher since 1953.
