Butchers show upper crust credentials

Judges Chris Moorby, left, and Neil Curtis get their teeth an entry in the Great Yorkshire Pie, Sausage and Products competition at the Cedar Court Hotel, Bradford, the UK's longest-running regional meat trades contest

Hundreds of sausages, black puddings, burgers and pies were clad in their "Sunday Best" as producers competed for honours.

With Voakes Pies of Whixley, York, deemed ineligible in the pie section – they won it for the past two years – a new supreme champion pie-maker was ready to be crowned.
