Cafe-gallery celebrates first anniversary with fair photos

AN art gallery based in a restaurant and cafe is celebrating its first anniversary by showing a collection of photographs of Hull Fair.

City businessman Mike Bisby has compiled a collection of pictures showing the fair through the ages, which have just gone on display at Kingstone Galleries, based at Vanilla in Ferensway.

The venture was a result of Mr Bisby’s work liaising between members of the Federation of Small Businesses and the city’s Business Improvement District.

“We had an event in Vanilla, they had a few pictures on the wall and said they wanted to open a gallery so I said I would do it for them,” he said. He is hoping to open other venues and create more display space for the area’s artists.

He said: “I’ve got about 13,000 images and we can only display about 140 in here so we need more space. I’m talking to other venues about doing something similar so hopefully we can spread the work throughout the city.”

Hull BID manager Kathryn Shillito said: “We know Mike very well and we work very closely with him to make sure our work within Hull city centre supports the FSB members as much as possible. Mike has done a great job with Kingstone Galleries and we’re looking forward to helping him promote the expansion into other premises.”
