Debate: CONSERVATIVE Party leader David Cameron got his facts wrong during the leaders' debate when he said Yorkshire police were preparing to buy a £73,000 car.

Humberside Police chief constable Tim Hollis defended his force after it was criticised by the Tory leader during a clash with Gordon Brown over police spending.

During Thursday's televised debate, Mr Cameron said: "I went to a Hull police station the other day.

"They had five different police cars and they were just about to buy a 73,000 Lexus."

However, Humberside Police were so proud of their bargain buy that its purchase was announced online last July – with praise for its performance and road-holding after a 12-month trial.
