Car crash survivor to raise money for Leeds hospital unit

Mr Duckworth, suffered severe head injuries and had to learn to walk and talk again after being involved in a crash near his then home in Saltaire

He had to be cut free from his vehicle after it was involved in a collision with another car, leaving him needing emergency resucitation at the scene.

“I don’t remember much about the crash or what followed, but I know I’m lucky to be alive.

“I lost six pints of blood at the scene and the paramedics must have performed a miracle to bring me back to life.”

He only woke up after four weeks in intensive care.

On Sunday May 17 he will be among thousands taking on the Chester Half Marathon - near to where he now lives - to raise money for the Neuro Intensive Care Unit at Leeds General Infirmary.

“My training is going well so far but I do get tired easily and that’s a symptom of the crash that will stay with me forever. It has really given me a different perspective on life and now I want to embrace every moment.”
